World Down Syndrome Day!

Friday, March 21

This is a global day of celebration and awareness. Its purpose is to educate the world on what Down Syndrome is and how individuals with Down Syndrome need to be valued in their communities. The date for WDSD symbolizes the 21st day of the 3rd month, which was selected to signify the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which is Down syndrome.

We have a 5th-grade student at Fremont named Zoe who is believed to be the first student with DS to attend Fremont, a school that is 120 years old. This speaks volumes to Fremont's culture and how it's aligned with IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility).

Shannon and Zoe created a beautiful video to help educate us about Down Syndrome.

Please enjoy the video here and don't forget to wear your mismatched socks on Friday in recognition of this special day!
