Deaf History Month

Enjoy this video featuring Fremont 4th and 5th grade students asking questions and learning ASL (American Sign Language) from Fremont Parent, Hirma Torres, who is hard of hearing. In the ASL portion, we hope you will encourage your students to try the signs along with the video!

Students read aloud with an ASL interpreter of the book "The William Hoy Story" about baseball player who made history and helped add visual cues to the game. Please share if you feel it is appropriate:  https://youtu.be/eBPQ9IwXybE?feature=shared

Continue the conversation: You might discuss ways we can communicate without our voices in your class.  You could even set up a non-verbal communication challenge - like everyone lining up in order of their birthday without sound and see if they can find other ways to communicate to figure it out.

We hope you have fun with this IDEA Day activity as we continue to celebrate Inclusivity, Diversity Equity and Accessibility at Fremont.
