Home Reading Club

Welcome to the Fremont Home Reading Club! HRC is a PTA-funded program, designed to reward children who complete their monthly reading requirements, as set by their teacher. All teachers require from 20 to 30 minutes of reading outside the classroom and use the HRC log sheet as a record. Should your child complete their requirement successfully, they will be invited to choose a book to keep from the HRC book cart.

READING RESPONSIBILITIES:

K – 3rd: 20 minutes a day for a minimum of 20 days each month

4th-5th: 30 minutes a day for a minimum of 20 days each month

Each month your child will receive a new log sheet. The title of the book they are reading is to be written down each day, as well as the date and amount of time spent reading. A parent or guardian must sign these sheets at the end of each month, to verify the reading time and appropriateness of the books read.

Log sheets are due the first school day of the following month.  A grace period of 5 days after the end of the month is given to turn in the sheet.

BOOKS:

Students may choose any age-appropriate book, provided it is approved by both their parents/caregivers and teacher. Adults and older children may read to a younger child.

PIZZA HUT BOOK-IT PROGRAM:

Pizza Hut Restaurant will be supplementing our HRC program again this year with their “Book It” program. Any child who meets their HRC requirements will also receive a certificate for one free one-topping personal pan pizza. Certificates will be given out at the time the students select a book from the HRC cart.

Certificates may be used at participating carry-out Pizza Hut restaurants, including those on 7th Street, 4th Street, and Pacific Coast Highway. Pizza certificates expire one month from the date of issue and must be used by May 1, 2009. Only one certificate may be redeemed per child each visit .

PROGRAM TIMELINE:

The HRC runs from October 1 thru May 31. Students who complete at least 7 of the 8 months will be invited to a year-end party to celebrate their accomplishment.

With support from you, their teacher, and our school, your child can be a successful reader. The benefits of participation in the HRC will last a lifetime! Please contact us with any questions you may have.

Happy Reading!
